How to Prepare for Your Immigration Evaluation

✓Write down a simple timeline of key events

✓Prepare any documents your attorney wants you to share

✓Plan for privacy during your online appointment

✓Water, tissues, and breaks are always welcome

My Immigration Evaluation Process

  • We start with a brief phone consultation to learn more about your situation and confirm whether an immigration evaluation is clinically appropriate.

We will ask about the type of evaluation you may need, any deadlines you are working with, and whether you have an attorney. We will also walk you through the process so you feel clear on steps, timing, and what the evaluation includes.

  • After we confirm an evaluation is appropriate, we schedule an online evaluation appointment that is typically 2 to 3 hours. If more time is clinically appropriate, an additional appointment may be scheduled to ensure we can gather the information needed for a thorough evaluation.

The appointment is an opportunity to share relevant experiences and background, and to document the emotional and functional impact of trauma, hardship, or other qualifying circumstances. We approach the evaluation with care and structure, ask clarifying questions when needed, and make space for breaks so the process stays manageable.

  • After the evaluation appointment, we review the information collected and prepare a comprehensive written report. Standard report completion is typically about two weeks.

Reports commonly range from 10 to 25 pages and typically include an overview of the evaluation process, a detailed clinical summary, and documentation of mental health symptoms and functional impact. When relevant, the report may also include the impact on other involved individuals and any additional clinically relevant information needed for immigration filings.

If you would like therapy referrals, we can share options aligned with your needs and preferences.

  • It is common to feel unsure about sharing painful experiences. We guide the evaluation with care, explain why the inclusion of certain information may be clinically relevant, and move at a pace that supports both comfort and accuracy.

You remain in control throughout the appointment. We can pause, take breaks, and slow down as needed while still completing a thorough evaluation.

  • Yes. The evaluation is confidential, and the written report is shared only with the people you authorize.

If you would like us to coordinate with your attorney, we will ask you to sign a Release of Information. Without written permission, we do not communicate with others about your evaluation.
